George Johnston, The Basset Hound. (1988) Out of print, but Amazon. COM will attempt to locate a copy. A very useful book by a British expert in basset hounds. The history sections are particularly interesting.

Diane Morgan, The Basset Hound Owner's Survival Guide (1998). A witty look at the peculiarities of basset hounds and their people, complete with lots of anecdotes from the mailing list Basset-l. A must read!

Anna Katherine Nicholas and Marcia A. Foy, The Basset Hound (1985). Almost exclusively devoted to conformation dogs (both authors are longtime AKC judges ) with wonderful pictures of bassets of the 1980's

Eileen Schroeder, Going to the dogs (1980). Out of print, but Amazon. COM will attempt to locate a copy . A hilarious narrative about a woman's first encounters with the world of breeding and showing bassets hounds.

Margaret S. Walton, The New Basset Hound (1993). The newest serious basset hound breed book by one of the most prominent  breeders in American basset hound history. Idiosyncratic, but a must for the serious student of the breed.

Barbara Wicklund , The Basset Hound: An Owner's Guide to a Happy, Healthy Pet (1996). A "pet" book, but written by a longtime basset breeder and rescuer. it's worth the purchase price even for the more sophisticated fancier.

Andrea Griffing Zimmerman, David Clemesha , and True Kelley (Illustrator), My Dog Toby.(2000) A children's book that will endear itself to all who believe that bassets are smarter than they look!
